Chester Against Business Crime

Chester against Business Crime ( CABC ), launched on the 1st April 2005, is a partnership between Local Businesses, Chester City Centre Management, Cheshire Police and Chester City Council. Our aim is to encourage communication and cooperation between Local Authorities and Local Business in our effort to reduce business crime and its detremental effect on local business and the City's economy.
In June 2005, Chester Against Business Crime was awarded the 'Safer Business Award' by the 'Action Against Business Crime Group' funded by the Home Office. This prestigious award was granted to Chester in recognition of the tremendous work that has been performed to tackle crimes against local business.
Shoplifting in Chester is estimated to cost the city up to
an astonishing £20 million per year and is responsible for a large
proportion of the overall crime levels in Chester.
Crimes against businesses tends to attract less attention than those against individuals or their property. As a result, many incidents go completely unreported. This is something that needs to change. Shoplifting is a 'Gateway' crime - An individual involved in shoplifting will, most likely, move onto more serious forms of Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour. CABC acts as a preventative to stop individuals before they start committing more serious crimes by identifying them early and deterring them from a life of Crime.
