What are Special Educational Needs ( SEN )?

The term 'special educational needs' ( SEN ) has a legal definition, referring to children who have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn or access education than most children of the same age.

For more information contact the  Parent Partnership Service (external link) which helps parents and carers whose children have special educational needs, from pre-school age until they leave school.

Find out more about the provision for special education needs in specialist and mainstream schools by visiting the Teachernet website and downloading their brochure on Special Education Needs (external link)
