Forward Plan and Executive Programme - Decision Making

Key decisions must be published

The Local Government Act 2000, require all local authorities to publish a monthly list of "key decisions" which they intend to take over a forthcoming period of four months.

Most key decisions are taken collectively by the Council's Executive although a limited number of key decisions are taken by officers or Executive Committees under delegated powers.

What is a key decision?

The legislation provides the following definition:

  • A decision which is likely to result in the Council incurring expenditure, or the making of savings, which are significant having regard to the Council's budget, or
  • A decision which is likely to be significant on terms of its effect on communities living or working in an area comprising two or more electoral divisions in the Council's area.

The Forward Plan and Executive Programme

This Forward Plan and Executive Programme lists all key decisions which it is believed will be made by the Executive, or under delegated powers during the period of the Plan.  It also lists all other proposed decisions that the Executive intends to take, either collectively or under the new arrangements for single member decision making, implmented on 1st February 2008.
