Memorialisation
Book of Remembrance
The Books of Remembrance are on view daily, providing
an inexpensive and lasting form of memorial to those
departed. There are four Books, one for each quarter of the
year, and the Book will be open each day at the appropriate page so
that inscriptions may be seen on every anniversary of the date
requested. It may be opened on other dates by prior
appointment with the office.
The Books of Remembrance have been placed in the Book of Remembrance Room adjacent to the Crematorium Chapel, in which suitable entries may be made for the purpose of perpetuating the memory of those departed.
The Book has been individually designed and produced by artist craftsmen and is in keeping with the dignity of its purpose. The lettering is hand-written in the finest traditions of medieval illuminated manuscripts, and the volumes are richly bound and tooled.
The maximum number of lines permitted is eight for each entry. Inscriptions should not exceed 32 letters per line, or 28 letters where an emblem or coat of arms is required.
Miniature Book
A Miniature Book provides a personal copy of an entry made in the Book of Remembrance. It can be used as a family record with the provision for seven further entries and could be used to send to distant relatives and friends. Measuring 8" x 6" and bound in blue leather the Miniature Book contains the same high standard of craftmanship as in the Book of Remembrance.
Memorial Card
Memorial cards are available for individual entries. Made of white card and gilt deckle edged, the date and inscription is carefully inscribed inside exactly as it appears in the Book of Remembrance.
An example of Miniature Books of Remembrance and Memorial cards may be seen in the Crematorium Office.
Memorial Plaque in Bronze
The plaque, cast in
bronze, will be affixed to the purpose built Memorial Wall which is
situated within the Gardens of Remembrance at the Crematorium.
Each plaque has a dark background with raised gold effect lettering and edging and measures 8 inches by 2.5 inches. A plaque will accommodate up to 4 lines of text, each comprising of no more than 24 characters/spaces.
Bronze is a durable material which, under normal circumstances will maintain its condition for many years. However, if the plaque falls into a state of disrepair the Council reserves the right to remove it, after first consulting The Applicant or his/her known relatives at their last known address.
The memorial plaques will be erected in strict rotation six to eight weeks of date of order. Once erected the responsibility for any loss or damage will remain that of The Applicant.
