Temporary accommodation during grant work

Current policy is that decant accommodation is available for home improvement loan/equity share applicants at the discretion of the Council and is subject to availability. Provided the client vacates the temporary accommodation within 3 months all rent paid will be refunded.

Accommodation is provided by Chester and District Housing Trust and if you accept the offer you will be required to complete their licence agreement and you will be responsible for paying the rent. Temporary accommodation can only be made available for a limited period (normally up to 12 weeks).

Alternatively, If you are able to make alternative arrangements for accommodation but have nowhere to put your furniture, the Council can give you a furniture storage grant of up to a maximum of 12 weeks. The maximum amount payable is equivalent to the average Chester and District Housing Trust weekly rent x 12.

An allowance towards the cost of removal expenses may also be claimed from the Council to cover the cost of removal of furniture. This will be payable upon submission of acceptable invoices. You can discuss the amount payable in this case by contacting the Housing Section.
