Homezones: are residential streets where people come before cars. Streets where you can enjoy taking time to stop and chat with your friends and neighbours. Streets where even young children can play without the threat of traffic. Streets where cars are allowed, but the car driver is a guest.
The City Council would like to see this approach adopted in areas of new housing development and refers to the concept in the above briefs under the heading "public open space."
In October 2001 Chester City Council, in partnership with Cheshire County Council bid for some government funding towards the first Homezone in Chester . The bid was successful and the scheme is due to be built in Egerton Street/Francis Street in 2004.
