Strategic Flood Risk Assessment

A Strategic Flood Risk Assessment ( SFRA ) has been prepared by Faber Maunsell on behalf of Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council and Vale Royal Borough Council (May 2008).

The SFRA includes a Summary Report for West Cheshire and a detailed report for each District.

The SFRA provides evidence for developing future planning policies in the Council’s Local Development Framework. It considers the risk of flooding across the District from all sources including tidal, fluvial and artificial sources (e.g. drainage) and also considering the impacts of climate change. The SFRA will also be used to inform site specific Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) submitted on individual planning applications.

The main area of flood risk in the District is focussed around Chester City centre, although well maintained flood defences protect the City to a 1 in 200 year standard. Further east, undeveloped land in the Sealand Basin is at risk of flooding and part of this area is designated as an official flood storage area by the Environment Agency.

The reports are available to download, As Adobe pdf documents, free of charge below. Alternatively they can be purchased for £40.00 plus £2.00 postage.
