Commonly Encountered Alterations
The following is intended to illustrate commonly encountered alterations for which an owner should seek Listed Building consent.
- Alteration or demolition work to chimneys/pots
- Alterations to the materials, construction or form of roof finishes, structure or ridge
- Proposals to clean, paint, clad, point or otherwise alter external wall finishes or materials
- Replacement of doors or windows. The repair of original units will usually be preferred; otherwise, reinstatement of the original designs and types will normally be required
- Attachment of burglar alarms, floodlighting, cabling or items otherwise affecting the existing fabric or appearance of the building. This also applies to satellite dishes (use the Planning Portal's Satellite dish locator (external link) to find out where to position your dish)
- Alterations to, or demolition of, the internal layout - including partition walls
- Alterations to, or removal of, internal fixtures and fittings - such as plasterwork, original joinery, fireplaces, etc.
- Alteration, of demolition of, boundary walls
- Extensions, wherever sited and however sized and designed will require Listed Building Consent
