Conservation Area Advisory Committee (CAAC)

The Conservation Area Advisory Committee, set up in the late 1960's, consists of representatives from the Association of Auctioneers, Estate Agents and Valuers, Chester Chamber of Trade, Freemen and Guilds of Chester, the Royal Institute of British Architects (external link), the Landscape Institute (external link), the University of Chester (external link), the Royal Town Planning Institute (external link), the Urban Design Group (external link), the Archaeological Society, the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (external link) and Chester Civic Trust (external link). The Committee normally meets at 5.30 pm on the first Tuesday of each month, to consider significant planning applications within the City Centre Conservation Area.

Secretariat services are provided by the Forward Planning staff of the Council, who arrange agendas and take minutes, as well as ensuring that comments are communicated to the Development Co-ordination team.  Comments are not attributed to individual Members, but reflect the views of the Committee as a whole. From time to time, with the consent of the Chairman (currently John Douglas), agents attend to present schemes either at an early stage or as current applications.
