Chester is one of the most attractive historic places in the world and the Council is looking to reinforce the distinctive character of the city through quality developments. Repairs to the existing fabric also need to be dealt with in a sympathetic way.

The Development Co-ordination Service

To help developers through the planning process, the Council offers the Development Co-ordination Service.

Potential developers and their agents are invited for constructive discussions before a planning application is submitted. This encourages quality applications, helping to bring about more speedy planning decisions.  A team of senior officers can be called together from both the Council and other appropriate agencies to discuss proposals within seven working days of a request.

Key issues such as employment, transport, environmental matters, affordable housing (when appropriate) and any legal requirements are normally discussed at this early stage.  If requested, the Council will maintain confidentiality at this point.  Details relevant to Council planning policy, procedures and Planning Board dates, together with general information about the Development Service, are also provided.
