How do I know what is happening to my Planning Application?

The Council is required by law to keep a planning register. This is in two parts:

  • Part 1 contains copies of each of the applications, together with submitted plans awaiting final determination
  • Part 2 of the register contains details of each of the determined applications, giving the decision. The register is available for public inspection at the Development Reception on the 2nd floor of the Forum Offices during normal office hours

Once a week, a complete list of all planning applications received and validated during that week is prepared and circulated to all Councillors and other interested parties and posted on the current and archive applications page.

Occupiers of property in the immediate vicinity of an application site and considered by us to be affected by the proposal are notified and invited to comment within 21 days. Comments can be made in writing, or by emailing them to planning@chester.gov.uk or made using the planning applications online facility - enter the appropriate details to find the relevant application, click on the submit comments button and complete the online form.

Certain planning applications received by the Council require more intensive publicity and are advertised in the Chester Chronicle under the public notices section. A notice on site may also be displayed to inform the public.

These proposals include:

  • Departures from the Chester Local Plan
  • Conservation Areas - proposals which materially affect the character of a conservation area
  • Listed Buildings - applications for alteration or demolition which may effect the setting the building are given added publicity
  • Major development proposals

Further information on what happens to an application when it is received can be found here.

How do I view a planning application?

The details of any planning application and associated documents, submitted to the Council, can be viewed on the planning applications online facility. Since September 2007 personal information, such as telephone numbers, email addresses and signatures, are now redacted before scanning.

Planning applications can also be viewed by calling into the Council offices
