What do I need to start recycling?
You need Green Bags for paper, Pink Bags for plastics, tins and cans, a White Bag for glass and batteries and the calendars with the collection dates on. Phone 01244 402 477 or e-mail customercontact@chester.gov.uk and you will be sent a starter pack.

Where can I get Green and Pink Bags from?
The Council offices in the Forum have a supply, alternatively you can call us on 01244 402 477 or e-mail customercontact@chester.gov.uk to be sent a supply.
If you know of any shops in the Chester area that would be willing to keep a supply of bags for local residents, please call us on 01244 402 399.
Where can I get a Glass and Battery Recycling Bag?

Where can I get a collection calendars from?
The Council offices in the Forum have a supply, alternatively you can call us on 01244 402 477 or e-mail customercontact@chester.gov.uk to be sent one.
What time do I need to put my bags out by?
Your bags must be out and ready for collection by 7.30am, alternatively many residents just put them out the night before as long as they are put out no earlier than one night prior to collection.
What can be recycled in Green Bags?

Where are the Recycling Collection Points (Banks) in my area?
There are many banks for recyclable materials in Chester, to see a complete list, click the Recycling Sites link.
Where does my rubbish go if it's not recycled?
If you do not put your recyclable rubbish in the green, pink, white bags or brown bags/bins your rubbish will be sent to Landfill Site where it is buried in a hole in the ground. For more information, click the Landfill Sites link.
What happens to the rubbish I put out for recycling?
It goes to our MRF (Materials Reclamation Facility) located on Bumpers Lane, Sealand Road, Chester. The materials are sorted here and then sent off to companies that turn them into new products. For more details, click Recycling Process the link.
Where does my Garden Waste go to?
The collected Garden Waste is sent to one of two sites. One site in Hapsford composts it and then sells it on. The other site is a farm in Waverton (home of the Crocky Trail) and the Garden Waste is composted and used on the farm, eliminating the need for chemical fertilizers. How can I dispose of large/bulky items?
The City Council operates a Special Collections service to residents. You are entitled to one free collection per financial year (April-March). Any further collections will be subject to a £15 charge. For more details, click the link below.
