Chester City Council has invested £20,000 revamping the changing and toilet facilities for disabled people at a popular sports centre.
The unisex accessible changing facilities at Northgate Arena have been refurbished and upgraded in line with Sport England requirements. A brand new unisex accessible toilet has also been installed near the café and reception area.
Councillor Eric Plenderleath, city council executive member for culture and community said, “We have invested in these facilities to enable wheelchair users and others with limited mobility to participate fully in leisure activities at the Northgate Arena.
Following an audit, the previous facilities were found to be out-dated and below the standard expected by our residents, so we have replaced them with modern facilities that comply with nationally recognised good practice standards.”
The new facilities will be officially opened by councillor Plenderleath on March 23. The event will also attended by Annette Lawrence, a local disability rights campaigner and members of the Chester Terrapins, a local disability swimming club.
