Chester City Council helps local residents beat the Credit Crunch

26 March 2009

One of the final acts of Chester City Council has been the production of a leaflet about organisations which give free and confidential advice on money matters.

The information includes local and national sources of advice on debt, council tax, housing benefits, welfare benefits, housing and homelessness.

Copies have been widely distributed to reach as many people as possible, including drop in events at local businesses, supermarkets and community venues. The leaflet has been designed to be of use once services transfer to Cheshire West and Chester Council on April 1.

The publicity drive complements the council’s dedicated web-pages, launched in January, which also provide links to help for businesses

Councillor Stuart Parker, chair of the cross party Credit Crunch Working Group said: “What is clear from our work is the importance of communication between partners to understand the range and scale of the impact locally. This leaflet shows that there is a lot of help available to businesses and local people to see them through these difficult times”

Councillor Paul Roberts said: “No one should think they are alone. The credit crunch is affecting families and individuals in different ways and this leaflet will enable people to find someone who can offer advice to meet their specific needs.”
Councillor Bob Rudd said: “It is good to see Chester City Council is working with partners up to its last days and serving local communities. The work at Chester to help those affected by the credit crunch has laid a good foundation for Cheshire West and Chester to continue.”
