Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit Fraud

In 2007/08 Chester City Council paid out  26.5 million in Housing and Council tax benefits.

These benefits are a means tested way of giving financial assistance to people who need help to meet their rent and council tax liabilities.

We want everyone who is entitled to benefits to apply for them. But stealing through benefit fraud costs you, the taxpayer, millions of pounds each year, leaving less for those who need benefits to live.

Every time a false claim is made it costs us all.
