This is a general guide to benefits you may be able to get from Jobcentre Plus and other offices if you are of working age. For more information contact your Jobcentre Plus office, Jobcentre or social security office

Income Support

If you are on a low income and any of the following apply: you are a lone parent, you are sick or disabled, you are aged 60 or over, you are caring for someone who is ill or disabled, you are registered blind  you may be eligible for Income Support (external link)

Help from the Social Fund

If you are on a low income benefit, help with costs for your home, or for a new baby, or dealing with an emergency  you may be eligible for Social Fund (external link)

Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

If you are not working or working on average less than 16 hours a week, able to work and looking for work, and cannot get contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance; and have income and savings below a certain level  you may be eligible for Jobseeker's Allowance (external link)

Funeral Payment

If you get a low-income benefit or tax credit; and need help paying for a funeral you may be eligible for Funeral Payment (external link)

Cold Weather Payment

If you or your partner are getting Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, and have a child under 5, or you are disabled, or are aged 60 or over you may be eligible for Cold Weather Payment (external link)

Housing Benefit

If you are paying rent you may be eligible for Housing Benefit 

Council Tax Benefit

If you are paying council tax and on a low income you may be eligible for Council Tax Benefit 

Tax Credits

For your household to be eligible for tax credits, you and / or your partner must be aged 16 or over and usually live in the UK. You may still qualify if you do not live in the UK you may be eligible for Tax Credits 

Disability Living Allowance

If you are aged 16 or over, disabled and working 16 hours a week or more you may be eligible for Disability Living Allowance (external link)
