Existing Business Base
Chester has an increasingly diverse and dynamic economy offering all the resources and skills you need for a successful business location.
This is clearly shown by the impressive range of administrative, commercial and industrial operations which have already selected Chester as their base.
A strong, long established services sector, particularly in commerce, retailing and tourism, is complemented by an expanding manufacturing base which includes major industries at the forefront of modern technological developments.
Kemira and British Nuclear Fuels are based in Chester District, and companies such as British Aerospace, Vauxhall Motors, Toyota, Sharp and Brother are all located close by. Chester proved very attractive to Swiss chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut Ltd, who have their UK operation at Chester West.
The range and quality of manufacturing operations ensures the availability of a wide range of accessible skills and suppliers.
Chester is a major centre for local government and public sector administration such as the health authority and has attracted many regional and national headquarter operations.
Our financial services sector has grown dramatically and Chester houses the national headquarters of three major finance companies Marks and Spencer Financial Services, Halifax Bank of Scotland and MBNA European Bank.
Chester welcomes new industry and commerce and is particularly well suited to new technologies. There is a high concentration of research and development centres in the area, which provide expertise and support to companies.
Whatever your business needs, Chester's aim is to help you expand and prosper. Our team can offer a wealth of skills and experience, a warm welcome and a prompt and positive response.
The Mersey Dee Alliance
The Mersey Dee Alliance (MDA) was born out of the recognition of shared economic and community interests across the West Cheshire, Wirral and North East Wales Area. The Alliance is led by the local authorities of Cheshire, Chester, Denbighshire, Ellesmere Port & Neston, Flintshire, Wirral, Wrexham, and the Welsh Assembly Government and Merseytravel.
MDA project areas include transport and accessibility, labour market skills, and business investment. Examples of recent MDA successes include the Workwise initiative (external link), and the Sub-regional Spatial Strategy for West Cheshire and North East Wales (external link).
Mersey Dee Alliance Workwise
Is aimed at removing transport as a barrier to residents taking up employment/education or training opportunities.
