Alarms for the elderly and disabled
There are a range of initiaitves designed to allow people to retain their independence by providing alarm systems for the home. Generally, these are in the form of discreet personal communications system that summon help, at the touch of a button in case of accident or emergency.
Cheshire County Council run the Telecare Scheme which links a person's home to housing agencies' community alarm systems, using sensors and monitors. The sensors can detect changes in the environment (carbon monoxide, gas, smoke, etc) and in the individual's situation
(if they've had a fall, for example) and trigger an alarm that alerts a 24-hour response. For more information contact Adult & Community Services on 01606 815037
