Chester Visitor Centre (CVC) has been one of the main ports of call for tourists in Chester for years. Now, with the Amphitheatre Project in full swing, it is set to become even more of an attraction for tourists and the local community.

Most of the First floor of the CVC has been refurbished and converted into the Amphitheatre Interpretation Centre. This has been established to give visitors a direct view into the work and history of the Amphitheatre Project.
The Interpretation Centre has a wide variety of features that aim to inform and entertain people of all ages. Below is a small example of what you can expect to find.
The Interpretation Centre is packed full of interesting and informative displays that retrace the history of the Amphitheatre Site and Chester's Roman past.

Along side the more traditional information panels you will find several interactive displays aimed at children (though they are tempting for big kids of all ages!). These include piecing together a broken replica amphora, building a wooden amphitheatre, identifying coins, drawing, colouring, and many more.

With it's location right opposite the Amphitheatre Site the CVC offers one of the best views of the work. For that reason a special viewing platform has been installed to allow everybody to enjoy the view on to the Site below.

Perhaps the best attraction to the Interpretation Centre is the section where you can watch finds from the site being cleaned, identified and sorted right in front of your eyes.

You can watch the archaeologists as they wash, identify, classify and record the many finds from the Amphitheatre Site.
