Julia Midgley

Project Artist in Residence

Julia has been appointed as Artist in Residence by Chester City Council and English Heritage for their project to Excavate Chester's Roman Amphitheatre.

Drawing work began mid May 2004 and will continue throughout the summer until late September.

The aim is to produce an archive of drawings which will document the project.

Every aspect from site preparation to briefings, from excavation work to activities in the finds room, will be illustrated.

Archeologists, historians, site contractors and students, film makers and photographers, all will appear in the drawings.

Each piece of work is drawn onto hand made tinted paper using acrylic inks, pencil, watercolour... These are live action drawings made on location, some of which are later developed in the studio.

An exhibition of all the finished works will take place in Chester during 2005 accompanied by a fully illustrated publication.
