This Saturday (17 July) is National Archeology Day. The Amphitheatre will be hosting several exciting events to cerate the occasion.

Ten new pictures of finds have been added to the finds page, ranging from 1960's milk bottles, to Roman Samian ware.
Despite some miserable weather early on National Archaeology Day at the Amphitheatre was a great success.

The third edition of the Amphitheatre Project Newsletter is now available for download
We have added some of the results from the extensive non-invasive survey carried out on the Amphitheatre Site.
Find of the Week this week is a nicely preserved antler bone comb, probably from the 10th - 13th centuries.
Two more finds: A 13th century pen, and a parchment clip or page holder (were originally thought to be tweezers).
Issue Four of the Project Newsletter is now available for download. This month is packed with updates from the trenches and finds.
Another eight finds have now been added to the finds section. The section has had to be reorganised to contain them all.

Several enthusiastic members from the Mersey & Dee Young Archaeologists enjoyed their visit down the Amphitheatre.
Once again we've had a massive supply of finds. Nine medieval and post-medieval finds have been added, with several Roman finds to be added shortly!

Apologies for the recent lack of updates - more are on the way. For now, there is a new 2nd century intaglio in the finds section.

A few weeks ago the Chester Young Explorers' Club were invited to the site to experience archaeology in action. See how they got on.
Project photographer David Heke will be exhibiting his photographs from the project taken over the summer months. It will take place at the Chester Visitor Centre on Sat 18 December.
The first addition of the year sees Stuart Ainsworth's latest report on the history and significance of the amphitheatre and it's surrounding area.
Just like today, it seems the Roman citizens of Chester enjoyed watching their sports events while feasting on fast food, and buying tacky souveniers!
To get you in the mood for this years excavations (starting Monday 13 June!) make sure you tune into Timewatch on BBC 2 at 9pm on Friday 20 May! The programme, titled "Britain's Lost Colosseum", is devoted to the teams work from last year!
This summers excavations have started at the amphitheatre site. From today (Monday 13 June) you will see the covers being carefully removed from the site. Make sure you check out the webcam to keep tabs on the progress.
Throughout the summer you will be able to get involved in the project at the many different events planned over the next few months.
Julia was artist in residence for the project last year. The work she produced is now being exhibited at the Grosvenor Museum until Sunday 4 September.

Chester Amphitheatre will once again be the focus of TV cameras when Channel 4's Time Team programme visits the site on Tuesday, July 5. The footage will be broadcast later that day between 8-9pm as part of Time Team's Big Roman Dig week.

This season’s archaeological excavation at the Amphitheatre comes to an end this week. Archaeologists have been onsite since June, before the site is covered and protected over the winter there is an opportunity to hear about the latest discoveries.
