Pécs - the southern town of the Hungarian Mediterraneum, with a population of 165000 - has nearly a 2000 year-old history. The history of the Roman Pécs dates back to the 2nd century A. D. The town is a wonderful mixture of the past and the present. The Early Christian cemetery dating from Roman period, the medieval town walls, the relics of Turkish architecture - the mosques, the minaret and the bath - built during the Ottoman occupation of Hungary, the four-towered Cathedral, attract a great number of visitors from all over the world.
