Municipal funerals

The aim of this service is to provide a low cost funeral service to the citizens. A person in receipt of benefits and  on a low income may be entitled to get financial assistance towards the cost of the funeral.

Financial Advice

If you receive:

• Income Support
• Family Credit
• Disability Working Allowance
• Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit

You may be able to get financial assistance towards the cost of the funeral. To obtain advice contact your local Benefits Office; they can arrange an interview for you, or they can send you the claim form SF200 "Assistance with funeral payments". You can also get advice from your Welfare Rights Officer.
