Chester's links with the
USA
The sister-city programme link with the town of Lakewood, Colorado, USA, operated by the People to People Association of Chester has continued to blossom.
In addition, the friendship links with the Chesters in the USA is progressing encouragingly well and a Charter of Friendship has already been signed by Chester, UK and Chester, Conneticut. The Mayor (or first Selectman) of Chester, Conneticut Martin Heft, visited Chester during April 2003 and attended the Lord Mayor's Banquet. He also attended a small reception hosted by the Chester International Links Association.
Plans are being made for a group from Chester UK to Chester CT. in September this year to attend a conference of all the Chesters in the US (some 23 communities!).
9 Chester CT representatives, including First Selectman, Martin Heft, visited Chester's adopted Royal Navy troop carrier H.M.S. Albion, when the ship paid a courtesy visit to New York in February this year
The Chester International Links Association, set up under the guidance of the City Council now has almost 100 members and although aims to being self-sufficient, will always retain the active membership and the support of the City Council.
New members are always welcome and involvement is at whatever level you want; anything from a supportive spectator to an active member of the Association's Executive Committee.
