Local Activities and Events
There are a number of local activities and events that are available for the over 50s to participate in.

Health Walks - Chester City Council’s Sports Development Team has established a number of new walking groups around the city. The aim of the walking groups is to bring local communities together whilst providing them with a way to help improve their fitness level. A large emphasis of each group is to socialise before, during and after the walks to help members meet new people. The walks are open to people of all ages and abilities.

Playing Out Project
Are you aged 50+ and want to volunteer to be involved in a project which encourages children to be more active and healthy by taking part in traditional playground games. Volunteers (over the age of 50) are being recruited to visit local schools to teach children traditional playground games. Though learning from each other we hope to improve community cohesion between generations.
The aims of the project are to:
- Improve the fitness of children by re-introducing the active games that you used to play and that have been forgotten over time.
- Improve volunteering in general.
- Link the local community and school more closely together.
- Through working across generations, to improve community cohesion.
- Leave a legacy of good relationships.
The project is sponsored by Chester in Partnership as the major partnership for Chester District and a small amount of funding has been allocated by Chester City Council with support from Age Concern.
For more details on volunteering to help on this project, please contact the Chester City Council Access Officer on 01244 402455 or e-mail g.garnett@chester.gov.uk.
