What are the benefits of joining Chester Against Business Crime?

Exclusion Scheme (Banned from one, Banned from all)

The exclusion scheme is for persisitant offenders. When it is applied, an offender will be banned from entering any store that is a member of CABC . With over 150 members, that's quite a punishment and in many cases, the threat alone acts as a deterrent.

Photographs Of Persistent Offenders

In consultation with Cheshire Police, we compile information and pictures of active criminals in and around Chester. This information is circulated in a weekly news sheet. Often, through Police and local intelligence, we can predict who will be active and therefore they can be stopped before stealing anything.

Participation in Chester's Secure Radio Network

Our radio network not only provides confidence and support to staff, it gives you direct contact to Chester's CCTV Control Room, patrolling Police Officers, the Community Safety Wardens and of course; other businesses like yours. Letting you know who is on the way! For more information, look at our Secure Radio Network page.

Access to the National Business Intelligence System ( NBIS )

This state of the art database collates information on travelling criminals all over the UK. The database can pick up on trends in peoples movements and activities and manages the system of incident report forms submitted by all members of the scheme across the country.

Staff Training

Training is available on request, in particular to help staff identify forged money and potential shoplifters.

As a member of CABC your business would have a direct input into the Anti-Social Behaviour Framework in Chester, by making sure all incidents, no matter how small, are reported, logged and kept for use by the Police, CABC and the City ASBO Coordinator. You would also be a voting member of Chester City Centre Management  and have the opportunity to shape the way our City is managed.

One Business has reported a 60% reduction in stock loss and another a staggering 75% reduction.

What does it cost to Join?

Costs are competitive with other schemes around the country. Membership of CABC is by an annual subscription of between £480 - £950 (£40 - £80 per month), depending on the size of the business. (This amount is claimable as legitimate business expense against tax.)

The funds are used for the administration and implimentation of the various schemes or projects, to employ staff, to maintain the radio network, base station, infrastructure and Home Office licence and to purchase and maintain the criminal intelligence system ( NBIS )
