Boughton Heath Ward
Boughton Heath is approximately two miles from the centre of Chester. The ward forms part of Great Boughton Parish Council along with Vicar's Cross ward. It is known to the parish as the South ward.
Boughton Heath lies between the Shropshire Union Canal to the north and the Caldy Brook to the south. Part of its boundary runs along the River Dee. The ward has good transport links with both the A41 and A55 running through it.
There is a Park and Ride serving the city centre accessible from these roads. There is a mixture of 20th century housing in the ward. Some of the earliest houses are included in the Dee Banks Conservation Area. Towards the end of the century most of Chester's new housing was built in Boughton Heath.
Caldy Nature Park consists of 30 acres of wetland, woodland and meadows. It provides an informal recreation area for local residents. There is an enthusiastic and active Friends of Caldy Nature Park, which organises events throughout the year.
There is one primary and one secondary school in the ward. Boughton Primary School hosts activities out of school hours including Women's Institute meetings and keep fit. Bishop's High School is a Church of England voluntary aided school. Bishop's has a community library and hosts adult learning sessions as well as a "Music for All" scheme and a seniors club.
Caldy Valley Neighbourhood Church and Centre has activities for all ages. Brownies, Boys Brigade, a playgroup, Tumble Tots, and a parent and toddler group cater for children, younger people and young families. There is also a baby café offering support and advice for new mums. Activities for older people include a bridge club, gardening club, Scottish dancing, arthritis care and adult education classes.
The superstores, including Sainsbury's, on Caldy Valley Road are the focus for retail activity in the ward, but there are more shops just outside Boughton Heath on Christleton Road. These stores together with the two pubs and hotel provide the main employment opportunities in the area.
