Christleton Ward

Christleton ward lies in greenbelt land to the east of Chester and is made up of the three parish communities of Christleton, Littleton and Guilden Sutton. With small exceptions, most of the ward lies in the area to the east of the A55 and A41. The A51 crosses the ward east-west. Christleton is mentioned in the Domesday Book and has an attractive village centre, which is a conservation area. Littleton, its sister settlement, lies on the line of Watling Street. To the north of the A51 is Guilden Sutton. The River Gowy, an important wetland, forms the ward's eastern boundary. An extensive footpath network, including the Shropshire Union Canal towpath, makes Christleton popular with walkers. The Pit, a water-filled marl pit on the edge of Christleton village, is a beauty spot that lies adjacent to the historic Almshouses and the King George V playing field.

Most of the housing within the ward is privately owned, although there are a handful of Housing Trust properties in each of the villages. Guilden Sutton has a small centre which was expanded in the 1960s and 70s.  Littleton and Christleton retain their historic character. There are sheltered housing schemes in Guilden Sutton and Christleton, and nursing homes in Littleton and Christleton.

Both Christleton and Guilden Sutton have post offices. Guilden Sutton has one pub, Christleton has four pubs and a hotel. There is a county council depot and a small business centre in Guilden Sutton.

Guilden Sutton and Christleton have primary schools and Christleton has a large high school, with a modern sports complex and swimming pool. West Cheshire College has an adult education centre on the same site. The College of Law is based in 14 acre grounds at Christleton. Pre-school care is provided by play groups in Guilden Sutton and Christleton.  There is no GP service within the ward, although Guilden Sutton and Christleton have dental surgeries. Christleton and Guilden Sutton have hourly bus services.

The village halls at Guilden Sutton and Christleton, which are visited by a mobile library, have lively social calendars, as does Christleton Cricket Club. Local groups include the Women's Institute, the Guilden Sutton Players and Christleton Bridge Club. Popular events include the prestigious Christleton 5K road race, the Guilden Sutton 10K race and Christleton Village Fete.
