Curzon & Westminster Ward

Curzon and Westminster ward contains some 1800 households and comprises three distinct areas.

Between Hough Green and the River Dee lies Curzon Park an area made up of predominately pre-war and post-war houses, with recent small areas of infill with homes built in the last 15 years. In the triangle formed by Hough Green and Lache Lane, the Westminster Park recreation area dominates with houses on all sides. The homes on Hough Green, Cavendish Road and Lache Lane were largely built between the wars. The third area lies between Lache Lane and Wrexham Road out to the Marleston-cum-Lache boundary.  This is a predominately post-1960s development, only completed about 15 years ago.

There is a small sheltered housing/care centre at the Saltney end of Curzon Park. The majority of homes are owner occupied with some tenanted flats along Hough Green.

The ward is well served for open space, the largest being Westminster Park. The park has a small golf course and has tennis and bowling facilities. At the western edge of the ward (by the river) is a privately owned golf course with pleasant views across the river.

The ward has one primary school, Belgrave Infants School, and a small community centre in the Westminster Park estate adjoining the primary school. There is a small shopping area in the Saltney end of Hough Green and a further shopping area in Westminster Park.

There are three resident groups, Westminster Park Community Forum, Hough Green Residents Association and Westminster Park Forum. Local clubs include a book group, bowls, bridge club, croquet, junior football, National Women's Register, Scottish dancing, Womens Institute. For younger residents there is a youth club for 8 14 year olds and Cubs, Scouts, Beavers, Explorer and Venture Scouts.

The ward straddles three main routes into Chester and therefore traffic tends to be a problem. However there are regular bus services along these routes.
