Hoole All Saints Ward

Hoole All Saints ward is a suburb of Chester first mentioned in the Chartulary (or Register) of the Abbey of Saint Werburgh in 1119. The name is thought to mean "at the hollows" and most likely refers to the "hollow way" formed by the road.

Alexandra Park is a key park in Hoole and boasts excellent facilities such as tennis courts, bowling greens, a basketball court, and a children's play area alongside peaceful gardens. The park is also home to a diverse range of trees fitted with nest boxes. Other areas of public open space include the Narrows Community Park which opened in 2000 and Walker Street.

There is a Hoole Area Residents Association and four churches in the ward. These are Hoole All Saints Parish Church, the United Reformed Church, Hamilton Street Methodist Church and Hoole Baptist Church. The community centre is also used as a place of worship each Sunday. The community centre provides a meeting space for local groups and a number of community and voluntary organisations arrange activities for all age groups in the centre. The centre also has a community notice board. There are also other community rooms available in the Hoole churches.

Childcare facilities exist across the ward and there is a nursery in the community centre. There are two primary schools in Hoole, Hoole Church of England and St Werburgh's & St Columba's.

Housing especially built for older residents can be found in what is locally known as "the Gospels" (Matthew, Mark and James Close).  The central Hoole area is densely populated and consists of Victorian terraced property, with detached houses along Hoole Road and Canadian Avenue. In the main, housing is privately owned. Some of the larger properties have now been transformed into B&Bs or hotels along Hoole Road, which is a major access route into the city.

Hoole has a vibrant shopping centre with specialist shops, bars, restaurants, banks and offices situated along Faulkner Street, Charles Street and Westminster Road. There is also a small business enterprise centre off Hoole Road. There is a library off Hoole Road, a medical centre and a GPs surgery on Hoole Road.
