Newton St Michael's Ward
This part of suburban Chester is situated in the north east area of the city with the A41 being its top boundary. The ward has at its heart Kingsway shopping centre, Kingsway High School and the newly redeveloped Lime Wood Fields.
Newton St Michael's is a residential area with mixed housing. The majority is 1930s to 1970s private and social family housing with some flats around the central Kingsway area. There is also supported housing - both bungalows and flats. The main retail area is Kingsway shopping centre, with a mix of shops, a dental surgery and a pub.
Lime Wood Fields is the ward's largest area of green space and includes football pitches, toddler and teen play areas, a youth pod and landscaped areas. To the right of these fields lies the cycle way leading into Chester city centre and Newton Hollows, an area of great archaeological interest.
On the opposite side of the ward is Reconciliation Wood (off Plas Newton Lane) which was developed ten years ago in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
There are three active faith communities in the ward, Kingsway Chapel, and the churches of St Michael and St Columba. These buildings house a range of community activities for all ages, including a toddler group, a playgroup, Brownies, Scouts, youth clubs and a senior Fellowship Group.
In addition, St Michael's Church and Kingsway Chapel jointly provide a community café at Kingsway shops six days a week. Other community facilities are the New Scene youth centre and Woodfield Primary School. There is one active residents' association in the area.
