Tattenhall Ward

Tattenhall ward consists of the 12 parishes of Tattenhall, Newton-by-Tattenhall, Golborne Bellow, Tilstone Fearnall, Tiverton, Beeston, Burwardsley, Golborne David, Handley, Chowley, Saighton and Hatton.

The ward is largely very rural and agricultural.  Apart from Tattenhall itself, the villages are sparsely populated. This area is changing considerably as a result of the difficulties facing agriculture. Farms are merging to become larger, and hopefully more viable units, with the redundant farmsteads being converted for employment or residential use.  This is resulting in much of the rural areas of the ward becoming commuter territory and house prices are rising steeply. While this gives the impression of affluence, there is still a higher than average level of income deprivation, particularly among the elderly within the ward. Some villages also suffer from deprivation in terms of access to services.

Tattenhall itself has a reasonable range of services including a doctor's practice, health centre, post office, chemist, grocer, butcher, paper shops, hairdressers, and a number of restaurants and pubs. It has an excellent sports club with cricket, football pitches and squash courts. Equally, it has an excellent village institute. The village has a primary school, a number of pre-school facilities and two play areas. Village societies include a dramatic society, the Women's Institute and garden clubs.

Tattenhall Parish Council is very active, and the village won the national "Business Village of the Year" award in 2004. It is unusual in that its daytime population is almost identical to its night time population. This is in part due to the wealth of business sites largely provided by the village's largest landowner, the Bolesworth Estate.
