Upton Grange Ward

Upton Grange ward includes part of the Newton area of the original City of Chester and part of the parish of Upton-by-Chester (which includes the parish of Bache). The unparished part of the ward consists of residential areas on either side of Liverpool Road. This area has few community facilities apart from a children's play area off The Heywoods.

Upton Grange is a thriving community, with activities for young and old, including a residents' association, a history society, a flower arranging group, several horticultural groups and an amateur dramatics group.  There is an active parish council, and other local organisations and clubs include the football club, Scouts, Guides, a youth club, church organisations and a popular tennis club and golf course. There are also playgroups, play schemes and nurseries catering for young families.

There are several community facilities including a community hall, and two places of worship Holy Ascension Church and the Baptist Church, which offer rooms for local groups, organisations and activities. There is a popular and well-used branch library on Wealstone Lane.

There are children's play areas at Greenfields, Caughall Road and Wealstone Lane, all operated by Upton Parish Council. Wealstone Lane field also houses the sports pavilion, the youth club and a youth pod. There are other open spaces including Wealstone Lodge Gardens, the Cockpit, amenity land to the rear of Churchward Close, Bache Brook and meadow land behind Daleside.

Major employers in the area are Chester Zoo, the Countess of Chester Hospital and Morrisons supermarket. Bache has a variety of local shops and a post office, as well as Morrisons supermarket. Public transport facilities include frequent bus services, and a railway station. The M53 and M56 motorways are both within easy reach.

Most housing is owner occupied and there is some newly built housing. There are three primary schools Upton Heath, Acresfield and Millview. Queen's Lower School and Merton House School are private schools within the ward. There is a medical centre at Upton Village Surgery, on Wealstone Lane next to the library.
