Your Community

Chester City Council continues to work hard to engage all sections of the community with its work.  The introduction of the Area Committees to take some of the decision making out of the Town Hall and into the community is a prime example of this.

Area Committees

Area Committees are a way of bringing decision making closer to local communities. Some decisions that were previously made in the Town Hall are now made locally at Area Committee meetings.

Parish Councils

Parish and Town councils Town councils are the closest level of government to the community they represent. They are an elected body of councillors and have powers ranging from the provision of allotments to the provision of swimming pools!

Community Plan

The Community Plan is about people working together to bring about real change in the way public services are delivered over the next 10 years. The development of Chester's Way Ahead has been spearheaded by Chester in Partnership (see below), a well established network of public, private, voluntary and community organisations and groups.

Chester's Compact

The Compact is a formal agreement between public bodies and voluntary & community groups active in Chester district which aims to improve the relationships and ways that these bodies work together, particularly on matters such as grant funding, commissioning of goods and services, consultation, volunteering and work with local communities and minority groups. The City Council is signed up to this local compact; a copy of which can be found on Chester Voluntary Action's website (ecternal link).
