Life Events

We've designed a series of life episodes to help you make some of the important decisions you may face in life.  This section will be added to fairly regularly, so if you think there is an area we should be covering, please feel free to contact us and let us know.

Fostering and Adoption  - Adoption is a way of providing a new permanent family for a child not able to be brought up by either of their birth parents. There are many reasons why this might happen, but adoption by a new family allows the child to enjoy a more secure and loving environment.

Having a Baby - This guide is designed to help answer some of the initial questions you may have about having a baby.

Dealing with Bullying - "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me" - but they do, bullying hurts! Someone calling you names, hitting you or taking your things is not just part of everyday school life and you don't have to stand for it.

Dealing with Crime - Crime prevention is the best way of avoiding the need to deal with the after effects of crime.

Dealing with Bereavement - Even when you are mourning a loved one there are unfortunately, some administrative procedures you must follow.

Finding a Job - Whether you've just left school, are returning to work after a career break, are looking for a change or have been out of work for some time its best to approach the task of looking for a job in the same way.

Lifelong Learning - Have you ever wished you'd taken a different direction in your life, perhaps taken more or different qualifications to help you in your career?  Or perhaps you never had the opportunity to go on to university after you left school and you wish you had.  Now there's nothing stopping you whatever your age or previous education.

Getting Married - Help, advice and information about some of the things you should be thinking about when planning one of the happiest days of your life.

Moving House - You may have already decided which area to live in but its always worthwhile to gather a bit more information on the place you plan to live - just to make sure it lives up to your expectations and needs.

Making a Planning Application - For most types of development requiring planning permission, Chester City Council is the Local Planning Authority for the Chester District. This is a statutory function which the Council carries out having regard to central government legislation, currently the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

Starting School - Every child has the right to a school place while he or she is between the ages of five and sixteen and parents have the right to say which school they want their child to go to, whether the school is inside or outside the area in which they live.

Going to College or University - If you've decided to continue your studies after school and go to university or college there are two key choices ahead of you.  Where and what to study.
