West Chester Profile
This brief of the West Chester Area presents some of the hard-hitting facts about the issues that affect quality of life in our local communities. There are some negative facts, which have to be faced, if things are to change for the better. Poor health, crime, low income don't directly affect most people, for example, but they have an impact on everyone in the community. Together, they have a detrimental affect on people's daily lives. Together, we can do something about them.
The West Chester Area is over 34.7 square mile hectares with a population of 25,000
The West Chester Area is made up of the neighbourhoods of Blacon, Lache, Canal Basin, New Town and part of the City Centre. West Chester includes residential areas, open space, retail and light industry.
The individual neighbourhoods have very different characteristics and have their own neighbourhood profiles.
Figures show that areas within West Chester are deprived of opportunities in comparison to an affluent Chester District.

New Approaches
This community profile is part of a new approach which aims to help improve the services that pubic sector agencies provide in West Chester, so that they are more responsive to local people's needs.
To improve community involvement in decisions about local services, five Neighbourhood Partnership areas are emerging, building on the existing neighbourhood forums.
Each Neighbourhood Partnership area will be helped to produce a Neighbourhood Action Plan, which can influence public agency resources and services in their area. The aim is to produce local people's solutions to the problems identified here.
The West Chester Regeneration Board will bring together the public sector agencies and the Neighbourhood Partnerships to achieve shared aims.
New Approaches will strive to get local priorities right and concert efforts to get positive and lasting results.
