North West Regional Assembly
The North West Regional Assembly is a partnership that works to promote the economic, environmental and social well-being of the North West of England.
It is an inclusive organisation, with representation from local government, business organisations, public sector agencies, education and training bodies, trade unions and co-operatives together with the voluntary and community sector.
Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside make up the North West of England. More than 6.7m people live in the region. The North West Regional Assembly seeks to represent the rich diversity of the region and is working to improve the quality of life of all its citizens The Assembly represents the whole of the North West of England, the counties of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. Our £60 billion economy is larger than five European member states - Republic of Ireland, Finland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Greece.
The Assembly was formed in 1997 and takes its partners from Local Authorities in the region and key Economic and Social Stakeholder representatives bringing together representatives from the public, private and voluntary and community sectors, providing a forum for discussion of regional issues, and for agreeing a regional approach to strategic issues.
The Regional Assembly is designated a 'voluntary regional chamber'. The regions do not have to have one, but all eight English regions do, bringing together elected members and other representatives to act as a voice for the region on the economy, transport, planning and other strategic issues.
