The Mayoral Suite
The Mayoral Suite in the Town Hall is for the Lord Mayor's personal use and the reception of civic visitors. Interesting features of the Mayor's Parlour include two 18th century sword and mace stands. Researchers believe they came from either the Pentice or the Exchange, both former civic buildings.
There is also a clock carved to resemble the west front of Chester Cathedral. The clock and five similar ones were presented to the light cruiser HMS Chester by Chester citizens in May 1916. The cruiser took part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
The Lady Mayoress' Parlour contains nine portraits of the founders of local charities. They are painted on wooden panelling, rescued from the Council Room of the Exchange after fire broke out in 1862. The paintings show William Offley, Sir Thomas White, John Vernon, Richard Harrison, Owen Jones, John Lancaster, Richard Bird, Richard Sneyd and Joseph Crewe.
