The Council’s Priorities
We have a track record of quality service delivery and our priorities - what is important to local people – have been consistent over many years.
During these years Chester City Council has been judged ‘Excellent’ under the national Comprehensive Performance Assessment. However, we have reached a point where a step change is needed to deliver the improvements to services that Chester’s communities want and deserve. This is as much about doing things differently as about doing different things.
This Corporate Plan takes this process forward by providing clearer accountability for delivery of community priorities based around a new, streamlined Executive:
The key priority areas where we want to make a real difference so that our customers see change that benefits them:
Working with the Executive to provide leadership within the council and with key stakeholders, especially communities. To ensure the council achieves its corporate performance targets.
To deliver first class services to our citizens and communities enabled by modern technology.
Better opportunities for people to participate in and contribute to the life of the community for their social, health and economic benefit.
Developing Chester as a special place, where its natural and historic environment is recognised and valued. Developing the district economy to ensure there is the sustainable growth and diversity to provide people with local choices for housing and employment.
Encouraging more recycling, more sustainable development and clean up the City’s streets to provide a welcoming environment to residents and visitors.
Restoring Chester’s reputation as a place to visit and enjoy, where people once again feel safe to walk in the City or any of its villages.
Encourage greater awareness of ‘climate change’ issues.
We will work with partners to provide cost effective services to meet the needs of local residents, visitors and businesses. We will invest in priority services using resources released by doing some things differently or by stopping doing things others can do better.
People, Performance and Improvement
To create an organisation which is skilled and flexible enough to deal with change and provide quality services to meet the needs of our customers.
