Council Performance

Excellent by any Standard

2003/4 was a year of challenges and opportunities. We were assessed for the first time under the Government's Comprehensive Performance Assessment ( CPA ) Scheme. This assesses all local authorities and delivers a score that illustrates the quality of services provided and our capacity to improve these services. In November 2003 the Audit Commission awarded us their top grade of 'Excellent'. We are the only district council in the North West to be recognised as excellent so far.

However we know we are not perfect. In a recent survey 62% of residents were satisfied with the way we run things. We intend to keep on improving our performance so we can respond to the needs, priorities and expectations of local people and visitors.

Although the future of local government is uncertain, we believe the future of Chester is bright. We will continue to play a community leadership role and work with partners to keep improving the quality of life for people in Chester.

We will keep working to respond to the needs of our communities and develop and deliver quality services. We have been told we are an ambitious, focused and excellent council; we want to get even better.

In this section we reveal details about our recent CPA success, highlight our commitment to Investors in People and present our Best Value Performance Plan for the last year.

If you have any comments about the Best Value Performance Plan, CPA or any questions about the council's performance contact the Performance Team.

To allow you to see how County are doing we have put links to the Cheshire County Council (external link) website performance page. So you can compare Chester with other district councils, we have also linked to the Department for Communities and Local Government (external link) local government performance indicator site.
