Disability Equality Scheme

This is Chester City Council's first Disability Equality Scheme and Disability Equality Action Plan and will cover the period December 2006 to December 2009. The Scheme and Action plan forms an integral part of the Council's wider Corporate Equality Policy and Plan.

Chester City Council is deeply committed, within the civil liberties context, to improving the quality of life and independence of disabled people.

We are determined to ensure disability equality in our services, as an employer and particularly as community leader, leading by example in all we do.

In our corporate equality policy we make a number of important commitments to understand people's needs in everything we do.

These are referred to in this policy as well because they are wholly relevant to disabled people who because of their own circumstances, the environment in which they live or because of discrimination, deliberate or accidental, do not have the opportunities to achieve their maximum potential and get the best out of what life can offer.

This Scheme and Action Plan are organic documents which will develop and change over time. We would actively welcome comments, suggestions and contributions at any time in the future to help us improve the quality of life and independence of disabled people who live, work or visit Chester District. Please do not hesitate to contact the Access Officer, disabilityaccess@chester.gov.uk  on 01244-402455
