Amphitheatre Project
Over the next 3 years the largest uncovered amphitheatre in the UK is to be the subject of a major archaeological project. In a partnership between English Heritage (External Link) and Chester City Council, a top team of experts will carry out exhaustive research on the historic Roman site.

The Amphitheatre Project is a high priority in the policy of Chester City Council, and is a designated English Heritage Beacon Project. It is conceived as an integrated partnership between the two bodies.
Work has started on the first part of the Chester Amphitheatre Project. This consists of a series of 'non-invasive' surveys. This means none of the ground in and around the site will actually broken or disturbed, but will be examined using various pieces of high tech equipment.
A webcam has now been installed in the Visitor's Centre, looking out over the Amphitheatre site. It will be showing live video footage for the rest of the project, and will be moved around to view the action as it happens.
You can learn more about the project by visiting the Amphitheatre Website (external link)
