Rateable Value
The rateable value (external link) of non-domestic property is fixed in most cases by an independent valuation officer of the Valuation Office Agency (external link). All non-domestic property is re-valued every five years.
From 1st April 2005 the rateable value of a property represents its annual open market rental value as at 1st April 2003.
The revaluation is not aimed at changing the amount of money collected nationally, but to make sure that individual rateable values reflect the changes that have taken place in the property market since the last revaluation in 2000.
The values of all property in respect of which rates are payable
to your council are shown in the local rating list, a copy of which
may be inspected at the
Chester
Local Valuation Office (external link) or at our Forum
offices.
