Broadband
What is Broadband?
Broadband is a high-speed 24-hour connection, removing the need to dial a service provider, so that you can use your computer to access the Internet and still make and receive telephone calls at the same time.

With a broadband Internet connection you are able to use the phone and browse the web at the same time
Broadband in Chester
We have been working for several years towards creating a connected city, fit for the information age.
Chester City Council actively supported the excellent work of local groups who campaigned for the roll-out of broadband across our area. In the summer of 2005 a major milestone was reached - all Chester district exchanges are now broadband enabled. Reflecting the enthusiasm in embracing new technology, the use of broadband services in Chester is already way ahead of the UK average.
What is Next for Chester?
Looking forward to the future? In October 2006, Chester City Council welcomed BT's announcement that Chester will be one of the first areas in the country to be 'switched-on'. 'Switched-on' is the name of the move to an advanced IP (Internet Protocol) network, which will provide broadband services with speeds of up to 24Mb - triple the fastest speeds currently available to most UK customers.
