Contaminated Land Sites

The council is actively identifying and investigating sites which may be contaminated mainly by reason of their historic land use.  Sites are being considered on a prioritised basis and it will be many years before all the land areas identified will be investigated.  Land search enquiries of the council will not reveal sites which are potentially contaminated.

The 'buyer beware' principle of law applies in this regard and prospective purchasers may wish to make enquiries relating to the historical use of the land they intend to buy and of the land in the immediate vicinity. Freely available information such as historical maps (external link) and records stored at the County Record Office in Duke Street, Chester are a good starting point. Environmental searches can also be obtained from various sources such as those advertised on the internet.
