Food Risk Assessment
A risk assessment asks you to think logically about what might go wrong with the food that you sell and what you must do to make sure it is safe fir your customers. It is based in food safety practices that you will already be familiar with.
Risk assessments help to prevent problems rather than reacting to them after they have happened. You may have already seen this process referred to a 'Hazard Analysis' or 'HACCP' (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) which are systems of food safety management based on these principles.
Why do a risk assessment?
- It is a legal requirement for all food businesses
- If your business is taken to court you may be able to demonstrate that you had exercised diligence through arrangements in place to prevent an offence being committed
- It helps ensure food is safe for customers to eat
The Food Safety team has produced an advice pack for food businesses on how to carry out this process. We are happy to take this out to proprietors and go through the details with them. Please phone for details.
