Landlords' Forum

The Council has an established Landlords' Forum for owners of rented residential properties in the private sector. The Forum has proven track record of disseminating information on many aspects of renting a property.

The Forum is a partnership which engages the Council with private sector landlords and Lettings Agents. Elected Members are kept informed by Briefing Notes, highlighting the success stories.

Speakers are drawn from both internal and external sources and cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Harassment / Illegal Eviction
  • Gas Safety
  • Capital Gains / Inheritance Tax
  • Housing Benefit / Council Tax
  • Inland Revenue
  • Planning Issues
  • Housing Strategy
  • Houses in Multiple Occupation
  • Fire Safety
  • Discount Deals
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Empty Properties
  • Mould / Condensation
  • Major changes to legislation & policy

Attendance at meetings averages 70 landlords, with invitations and minutes being sent out to all members on the mailing list together with any specific up updates, whether they attend the meetings or not.

The Forum meets 3 times a year in a friendly and informal atmosphere in the Town Hall.

Minutes of the meeting are included here:

The Forum has also produced and freely distributed to all owners / agents a guide to renting accommodation:

The guide is designed to give basic, practical advice and information for landlords and agents in a clear and concise way.

The minutes covered the Housing Health and Safety Rating System on assessing housing conditions for more details see the attachment below:
