Private Hire Licences

Unlike Hackney Carriage Vehicles, Private Hire Vehicles and Drivers can only transport members of the Public who have booked their journey in advance with a Licensed Private Hire Operator.

There are no limits placed on the amount of Private Hire Driver, Vehicle and Operator Licences issued by Chester City Council. Please select the link most relevant to your enquiry from the list below.

New Knowledge Test for Private Hire Drivers

As of the 21st of February 2008, all applicants for a Private Hire Driver's Licence will have to pass a knowledge test. This will be to prove their understanding of the law for Hire & Reward drivers and to demonstrate their knowledge of the local area.
