Site Inspections

If you submit a Building Notice you can start work on site 24 hours after the Notice is submitted as opposed to the statutory period of 48 hours. However, the correct charge must accompany your Notice. Please Note:  If you require Planning Permission, this must be granted prior to works commencing on site.

We will inspect the work on site to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations. In particular we will inspect the following

  • Foundation excavations
  • Completed foundations
  • Fire protection
  • Drainage systems
  • Damp proof courses and membrane
  • Brickwork and block work for walls
  • Thermal insulation to walls floors and roofs
  • Structural elements
  • Weather proofing
  • Flues and vents to appliances
  • Ventilation
  • Staircases, landings and galleries
  • Safety glazing
  • Access to and use of buildings
  • Facilities for disabled people
  • Sound proofing
  • Electrical safety

We will also carry out inspections to ensure that suitable materials are used and that work covered by the Building Regulations is to a reasonable standard. If necessary we will make use of other professional expertise and testing procedures.

To arrange a site visit the same day please contact the office on 01244 402224 before 10am and we will do our best to visit that day. However, to ensure that a visit can be made to suit your requirements it is advisable to contact the office at 24-48 hours prior to the required visit.

Work on site should be as shown on the approved plans. However minor changes can be agreed with the building control officer as the work proceeds as long as the finished work complies with the Building Regulations. If major changes are needed it may be necessary to submit a fresh Full Plans Application, or amended plans may be taken as a working revision to the original application.  Please contact the office on 01244 402224 to discuss. Please note if you require/have required Planning Permission, you are strongly advised to check with the Planning Department that your amendments do not affect your Planning Permission.
