LDF Progress to Date and Local Government Reorganisation

LDF Update - Summer 2008

Work is continuing on a range of planning documents as identified in the Local Development Scheme. Alongside preparing and consulting on these policy documents, a wide variety of data and evidence is being collected to inform future planning policies in the Chester District area and as part of the new Authority of Cheshire West and Chester.

The attached information leaflets provide an update on the work of the Forward Planning Team (PDF Downloads):

Background to Core Strategy Development Plan Document – Issues and Options

The Core Strategy deals with broad planning issues, such as:

  • the level of development appropriate over the next 5, 10 and 15 years;
  • the broad locations where housing, employment, leisure, shopping, community and other types of development should go; and
  • how new development will connect with the transport infrastructure.

Development of the Core Strategy has to go through a number of different stages as required under planning regulations. During 2006/2007 we completed early consultation identifying particular issues important to local residents and organisations. The second stage of the process was the development of key issues and options. Consultation on these took place in 2007-2008 and the consultation has now closed.

The consultation considered 9 different options, ranging from continuing with current policies to more radical options, such as changing the Green Belt or building new villages. The purpose was to encourage debate and suggest ideas about how the district could develop in the future. Each option is shown with a plan and a table setting out what the advantages and disadvantages might be. The final strategy for Chester might be one of these options, a combination of them or another option entirely.

The documents that were consulted on are available to download below for information (PDF Downloads):
